Tips for Hosting a Minecraft SMP

So in case you couldn’t tell, SMPs (Survival Multiplayer) are almost the most popular series of Minecraft on YouTube. Want to know why? Because they are enjoyable to watch. Imagine how fun they would be to play. So I know what you are thinking. What could be more fun that having my own SMP? And that’s where we get into this topic.

Requirements:

Server: First you need a server. There are many hosts out there that would do it, but most of them cost money. I would recommend CubeHost, a pretty cheap server hosted that has really good servers that run well. You really want your server to be good quality so it’s not a pain for the people playing on it.

Players: Another for sure requirement is players. Wouldn’t be an SMP if it was solo. I would recommend starting out with friends you know personally. If you go onto the internet and do it, you may get some grief ears, hackers, etc. There are good people that would actually play it like it should be played, but the chance of that is so small it’s not even worth it. If you see a YouTube channel you like that seems mature enough, you can invite them to the server. Keep in mind that not everyone has time for that, so if they decline your offer that probably means they are busy, nothing against you.

Takes one of every kind:

All servers have a good red stoner, a good builder, good PvPer, etc. Try to get some variety in your server. Having 6 people that are great at red stoning and have horrible building skills will not take your server very far. But you can test out things yourself. Just have some fun with it. I’m just saying to try and get variety.

This is a very well done Minecraft server. It’s a faction server, which is basically where you build hard to break into bases, raid, fight, claim, ally, etc. It has a well done shop, where you can buy everything you need with In-Game money. You can earn money by either selling items that you find while in the world, or buy going to their website and donating for different rewards such as ‘Mythical Gear’, ‘Ultra Rare Drop Packages’, In game money, and much more. It also has a selection of 4 Different Worlds that you can play on.

How to start:

When starting factions, you will probably want to do ‘/kit starter’. That will give you a set of Protection 1 Iron Set of Armor. It gives you an Iron Shovel,  Axe, Sword, Pickaxe, 2 Stacks of Torches, 8 Golden Apples, and over 10 steak. You can do that command every 24 Hours. After that, you will probably want to do ./warp desert or ./warp extremehills. If you see someone that is stronger than you at the start, you can risk it at go, or wait. But anyway, once you get into the Wilderness, you are able to break blocks unless someone has claimed the land.

Starting a Faction:

When you get far enough away, you can do ./f create *Insert Whatever you Want*. That will create your own faction. When you make a faction, you can then lose power when you die. But you don’t lose power when in the Warzone, only when in the Wilderness. You can invite people to your faction by doing ‘/f invite *player name*’.

How to Raid a Base:

If you find a base you want to raid, chances are you can’t just break in with your pickaxe. The way you get into a base, is to Tnt Cannon it. This is a very expansive topic, as there are many different cannons. Sometimes you need a Hybrid cannon (Cannon that breaks through Water Walls) Ultra Cannon (To basically just put their base in ruins), etc. If you find a member of the base come out, try to kill them, as if you do, you might be able to overclaim their land.

/kit starter (Gives Basic Kit)

/f show *faction name* (Shows info about the player or faction)

/f invite *Player Name* (Invites a player to your faction)

/f kick *Player Name* (Kick a player from your faction)

/f create *Insert Whatever You want*

/warp extremehills|desert|ocean

/shop (Warps you to shop)

/spawn (Brings you to the World Spawn)

/help
